Miscellaneous Afternoon Musings

It's Tuesday, right?

SALTY SAILOR & THAI COCO MARTINI are both BACK IN STOCK!

This week has already started off with a "BANG!" ... it all began when I dropped dear hubby off at rental car facility late Sunday afternoon ... as I began to drive off he yelled back to me that he forgot his work boots. :( He must wear his steel-toed work boots on this job - period. Did I mention that the rental car facility is a good 45 mins away from our house??? He first thought that he would just come back home and then drive back out to the job. I talked him out of that ... too much driving with too many weekenders headed home. So, to make it easiest on us both he went to Academy and bought an inexpensive pair of boots. Whew, that was easy enough, eh? Life with a man is NEVER dull!!

I survived Monday's ordeal of housework. Geesh, I really need a maid, LOL. No, I take that back - it's not so bad when Hubby is out on a job. He is the mess-maker so I am enjoying a clean house this week while he is at work. :-)

Really excited about Wednesday night!! Another concert in The Woodlands!! I am taking my son, sis-in-law, & nephew. It's DEF LEPPARD / POISON / CHEAP TRICK. It should be just loud enough without any lewdness for the two boys. My son is excited.

While all this is happening .. I am working orders ... don't fret ~ yours in on its way!!

Well, my blog is boring, but that is just me. I eat, sleep, breathe fragrance oils ... didn't think you'd want hear about all that tho?

MONDAY Morning: Housework

Strange Sounds from the Computer

So, I am sitting at my desk late yesterday afternoon working on postage when my computer starts humming and singing it's own little song.... WHAT? I checked to make sure that I hadn't left a CD in the drive ... nope, that wasn't the problem.

Then the light went on! BING! BING! BING!

Hairballs! So, I dragged out the hard drive & the vaccuum cleaner & canned air ... yep, that was the problem! Why do I always forget to dust the computer??? Glad it fussed at me and told me to CLEAN ME NOW!

This morning as I am checking emails ... I glance down to my right and find Fiona sitting comfortable on top of the computer. Hmmmm.... wonder how those hairballs found their way down there???

Life in this household is a riot when these critters get to ripping & running! NEVER a dull moment ... not even at 3am when my little love, Lash-Baby, decides I need kisses all over the face ... and I mean WET, SLOPPY kisses from this kitten!

Corn ~ Tomato ~ Avocado Salad

Just ran across this recipe that I absolutely LOVE! Thought that I would share with you! It will help you beat this heat! It's easy & takes hardly any time to make!

What you need:
2 Cups Frozen Corn, Cooked & Drained
1 Avocado
1 Pint Cherry Tomatoes

Mix these ingredient together & set aside:
1/4 Cup Chopped Cilantro
2 Tablespoon Olive Oil
1 Tablespoon Fresh Lime Juice
1/2 Teaspoon Grated Lime Zest
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1/2 Teaspoon Pepper

Mix your Corn, Tomatoes, and Avocado AND add the Liquid Ingredients

Place in the fridge until chilled & ENJOY!

Saturday Morning Musings ...

Wow! I cannot believe it is Saturday! Where did this past week go??? It's was crazy-busy here ....

Tuesday ~ fast round trip to Louisiana ..ha, nothing fast about 4hrs one way, but we did it! Had a great time visiting with Steph & her family. I seriously tried to steal her beautiful flame-point himalayan kitty ...stuffed him under my tank top & everything, but alas .. his furry fluffy tail stuck out and I was busted. LOL

As you read in the blog yesterday ...we didn't come home empty-handed ...new dog along with the cat we went to rescue for a friend of mine. :)

Thursday ~ went to an Open House at Ciao Bella Medical Day Spa & Salon ~ that was fun to meet & greet the staff. All the ladies are wonderful & I cannot wait to have something ...not sure what... but something done to my face or lips or eyes, lol. Besides a FULL BODY MASSAGE! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.......'nuff said.

Friday ~ Motely Crue came to The Woodlands, Texas!! We stood in linve over 45 mins to get in ...it's so different than back in the 80s & 90s ... so high-tech with their metal detectors & junk! Takes more time to get thru the gates. We have a great time ~ my throat is a little sore this morning & my legs are achy, but other than I am good! Yes, I love Motley Crue even if they are a bunch of crude guys, once a Metal Lover always a Metal Lover!!!!!!

So, it's Saturday ~ besides working a bit in the shop ~ we aren't doing too much. Thinking about going to the lake later this afternoon and hunt arrowheads. CHEAP & FREE entertainment ~ you can't beat that!

Our Newest Furbaby Addition

For those of you that know me ... you know that I am a pet-crazed individual ... cats are the number one pet, but my Mini Schnauzer is like my child. :)

Ahhhhh..... big news! Drumroll please!!! We made a quick day trip to visit my bestest friend in Louisiana on Tuesday. She's been telling me about her backyard neighbor's little white schnauzer girl ... her neighbor's husband hates the dog Too yippy, too chewy, too much puppy is all --- we all KNOW that these babies need lots of stimulating activity!

We went next door to visit her pup, she was on a leash in the HEAT, rag-a-muffin, srsly did not look like a schnauzer. She looks like a malti-poo. Sweet girl, full of energy, but no one to take the time out to play. (Neighbor was just diagnosed with lupus so she isn't up to the task.)

Well, we get back to my friend's house & her neighbor calls ... if I want the dog, I can have her - FREE. So, I am now the proud owner of mini white schnauzer named PIXIE. Bless her heart, her eyes are so madded and gunky.

Her tail is docked, her ears are cropped, and her birthday is September 10th - she will be 1 yr old. She was perfect on the way home - long drive back - 4 hrs!

She went to the groomer's and got a professional clean-up ... I believe she has ear mites, but I am scheduling a vet appt for this morning so I can get her on heartworm meds and make sure she is A-Okay.

Sorry, this post is like a mini novel ... pics of the new girl are posted.

She looks completely different from when we brought her home! She looks like a schnauzer and NOT a sheep dog, lol
btw, Roxie & Jagger LOVE her --- those two babies are so good-natured! They accepted her right away.

Happy Monday!

So many plans already made for this week and it's only Monday! Today is MAJOR house-cleaning! My dear hubby has been home for the past month ... he is an absolute slob! I was just going to wait him out till he leaves next Monday for a job, but alas, I cannot. I cannot handle the mess ANY LONGER. So WE (yes, I said WE) are going to get this house is order TODAY! Wish US luck ... or rather wish HUBBY luck that I do not go "Drill Sergeant" on him. ;-)

Tuesday is a quick day trip over to Louisiana to visit my bestest friend. It's a 4 hr trip one-way, but we are getting out of here very early and will be back late Tuesday evening. Orders placed over the weekend and Monday will be out TODAY so don't fret --- I'm not abandoning ship. :)

Well, I must get on with my walk on the treadmill --- going to get 2 miles in this morning so I will be ready to clean house! :) Started a new book ... Laurell K. Hamilton's "Merry Gentry" series Book One so that will keep me occupied as I walk.

Saturday Musings ...

Sitting here at my computer with a fat cat, Fiona, in my lap. This girl loves to "lick, lick, BITE" my arm as I try to type. Heck, here she goes again ..... Love bites stink, but I wuv this silly girl. Her photo is posted on the blog ... :)

Went to buy groceries today - what a terrible day & time to do that!! Mid-morning on a Saturday and the FIRST of the month! Everyone was out and in the store!

Whew, I managed to get what I needed, but still forgot the trash bags, LOL.

Our county is small and where I live we do not have local trash pick up. We have two dump locations that we take our trash to ... I betcha those men at the dump think that I am one "trashy" girl because I have so much trash to take out every few days. With as many cats that I have comes a lot of poo ... that mean a lot of poopie litter to clean out ... along with one caged rabbit.

I really wish we had a recyling facility close, but in the boon-docks that I am, no such luck. However I do believe the recycle paper & cardboard ... that's good to know, but I use old newspaper for packaging as long as I can get my hands on it!

I am working on our newsletter for August announcements. We have two NEW fragrances coming out plus our tried & true Fall & Holiday favorites from last year. We are not adding too many fall & holiday scents this year since so many of our day-to-day fragrances we carry year round will work just as great for the upcoming season.

I'm having a rather "lazy" Saturday afternoon ... thinking about starting a new book. So many books ... so little time!! Just read Patricia Briggs "Mercy Thompson" series ... cannot wait for another one to come out! I need to start her "Alpha & Omega" series now. I never really thought that I would like the paranormal genre, but I really do! It's fantasy ... nothing wrong with that ... I think that is what held me back for a bit, but I am happy to have crossed over into this new genre.

I guess I've rambled enough ... my son just walked outside so I will do the same ... think I'll go pester my mom, lol. It's hot as Hades here so I won't be outside too long!!

day FIVE without electricity - I'm logged in on my MIL's laptop with broadband. PLEASE be patient with me - I've worked some today on orders that I can see to fill, but light is limited in the shop at the moment. Hopefully, we will be back to normal by the end of the week. Cold showers and quick baths in a bucket are NOT fun. My 8yr old is having fun tho - he & DH bathed in the COLD creek last night, ha. No thanks - I'm not in the mood for an abrasive scrub of creek sand bath ...

Ike Update!

Hey there guys! I spoke with Stacy last night and they're all safe and sound. Still no power, but they're all doing okay. Her home and her shop are UNdamaged! Yeah! She's got lots of trees in her neck of the woods, and alot of them fell, but they just knew not to fall on things that are offlimits! She did speak to a service guy for her electric company when they were out checking the lines, and they're expecting power to be restored shortly because there was no damage to their substation and the main lines running through to her area.

We'll keep updating as necessary until she's back up and running!

I'm at my MIL's and she has broadband ... hmm ... think I will look into that, too. Just wanted to give you all an update on Hurricane Ike ... he rolled in around 3:00 am this morning -our electricity went out 10 minutes till 7:00 am and it will no doubt be off for days. Many, many trees down throughout our community, but we are all safe and okay. Thankfully we did not have any damage to any of our homes.

I will try to post updates as much as I possibly can ... talk to you all soon!

URGENT! HURRICANE IKE!!

Hi Friends!

Boy oh boy! What a way to start the day,eh? I feel like a broken record at the moment. Once again ... we are under a weather advisory at this time - Hurricane "Ike" is headed straight to Texas! We are going to be working orders up until the storm hits us. We are preparing for the storm, but will not be evacuating. Forecasters are estimating that my area (Lake Livingston) will most likey be hit with up to 90 mph winds. Lovely, just lovely.

We may be without electricity so we have stockpiled gasoline and prepped the generator. If this hurricane hits like Hurricane Rita a few years back, we will be without electricity for at least a week or longer.

(fyi - we are 60 miles north of Houston - we are pretty close to the Gulf so we get a lot of the crazy weather!)

Please keep us in your thoughts! All we can do now is PRAY, PRAY, PRAY! Pray hard that this hurricane fizzles out!

Of course, our website is open and still working... I will be working.

So, if you do not hear from me ... this is why! Bad weather = no electricty!

I am having a "doh" moment here .. Just when I thought that I had everything needed on the website I realize that I don't. :blush: My apologies for not having this up for you!

Recommended usage of oils: (this is to be used at tester's discretion)
Wax - .75 oz. per 1lb.
(Average usage of fragrance oil is approx. 4 - 5% per lb. )
Soy - .75 oz. per lb. unless otherwise noted
CP Soap - 0.7 oz. per lb.
HP or CPOP Soap - 0.5 oz. to 1 oz. per lb.
MP Soap - 1 Tbsp. per lb

Whew, looks like we missed it! Thank goodness! We only had a small amount of rain and a little wind, but that is all. My poor friends over Louisiana didn't manage so well. :( Stephanie of Nature's Cauldron is out of electricity, but the family & their health are both okay.

I was perusing the message boards and ran across a thread about our newest Lushies fragrance oils. I usually just sit back and do not chime in on the threads, but this particular comment really rubbed me the wrong way. I won’t reply to the thread in question ~ that will just be a train wreck in the making and will end up deleted.

Some think that we are charging “more” for these Lushies due to their popularity. I BEG TO DIFFER. That is completely unjust & flat out rude to even consider such a thing!

First of all, I offer strongly concentrated fragrances. I could offer you less expensive oil, but it won’t be as good. I pride myself in offering STRONG, top-quality fragrances. We all want top quality, but you’re not going to get it cheap. Yes, I will admit – we do have pricier oils than other places around, but like I said before top quality isn’t cheap.

Yes, I know, I know... we can't please everyone, but we do try!

As you are aware, the cost of consumer products is increasing daily. The fragrance industry is no different, and it is currently being affected by increases of raw ingredients. We have absorbed other price increases in the past and will continue to strive to offer the most competitive pricing available for the top-notch fragrance quality that you receive from us.

Let me give you an example of what I am talking about: one particular manufacturer that we use has increased our pricing by 10 PERCENT within the LAST TWO MONTHS. No, we have NOT passed this increase onto our customers ~ we are doing our very best to absorb any and all increases. YES, you read that correctly an increase of TEN PERCENT!

In instances such as this, we are forced to increase our Sampler Pack pricing and re-evaluate several of our exclusive duplication sample prices. By re-evaluating the pricing tier, we have implemented the new Sampler Packs to accommodate those particular fragrances and to help you save a little money by ordering in a pack.

We do want to stress that we are NOT INCREASING OUR PRICES across the board or anything that drastic.

I am sure that this post will get me blasted for saying all this, but I would like to set the record straight here and now. So, what better place to do so than our blog?
